IT GETS DARK EARLY NOW
My briefcase is filled with talismans. amulets and charms. I lined my hat with tinfoil. I wear magic shoes. I gather the advice of the gods. It gets dark early now. I spend whole evenings in bed with the books once in a while, holding the world at bay. I ate 13 amaretti cookies last night in rapid succession. Maybe more. It gets dark early now. I am no longer convinced of the validity of my goals. I’m not sure I’m right, but I’m sure the authorities are wrong. My body yearns for action! Action! It gets dark early now. I feel myself bumping into the invisible barriers, the edges and borders between what I’m likely to do and what I’m not, let’s face it, ever going to do.
