PLASTIC

From an excellent piece in the Globe and Mail a while back by Nalo Hopkinson, about coming to Canada from Jamaica:

“Didn’t help that in this new city, I could constantly smell the gas used to power vehichles. I can’t detect the smell any longer, just as I can no longer detect the taste of plastic wrap when it’s being used on fruits and vegetables.”

Terrifying. I could eat plastic wrap and not taste it. Are we really that deeply in the chemical bath?
