SEVEN SMALL DECLARATIONS

We at Mango Pudding Blues declare our love for pumpkins. Our brother and his boyfriend left one on our doorstep a few weeks ago, and it never fails to fill us with wonder as we walk in and out of the house.

We at Mango Pudding Blues support the campaign to have the City of Ottawa designate our scrappy old neighbourhood an arts district.

We at Mango Pudding Blues enjoyed the faux pho and hot sake that Killer made us for dinner last night.

We at Mango Pudding Blues are determined to endure in spite of the howling winds of evil that are trying always to blow us over.

We at Mango Pudding Blues are scared.

We at Mango Pudding Blues are driving to the chocolate factory in a nearby small town this weekend to buy bags and bags of high-quality halloween products to distribute to the kiddies.

We at Mango Pudding Blues know you got soul. Or else you wouldn’t be in here.

ALICE MONET

In Paris, I saw the ghost of Monet’s wife, Alice, on a rainy day in the gardens of the Palais Royal. Well-attended by dozens of hovering birds and old, pale and frightening in classic ghost style, she shrieked and fled fast when an American tourist tried to capture her with his video camera.

DISTINCT SOCIETY

The IKEA cafeteria in Montreal. Same design. Same Swedish meatballs or whatever. But here the middle-aged ladies at the table next to me are drinking wine and smoking with their lunch.
