The Che Guevara beret is bringing me good luck lately. It’s fall now, cooler, so I wear it more often. This morning at brunch it attracted the attention of a gaggle of old birds who were vacating the table I was angling for. Four of ‘em; combined age nearly 300, I’m sure. I flirted with them shamelessly, helping one on with her coat and debating with them over whether the best commie hats were to be had from China, Cuba or the old CCCP. And I awoke recently to the realization that the fabric of my life is intensely beautiful to me. I’ve been weaving it for a long time, and I’m happy now.
